Protein drinks?
I’m a vegetarian, and I have to get a lot of protein. I bought some protein drinks, but they have 250 calories in eight oz. Is that normal? It just seems like a lot. Am I going to get fat from drinking them?

If you are drinking them like water, then probably you will be getting more calories than you need. But if they are a snack or part of a meal then you should not have a problem.

Firstly you probably dont need as much protein as you think. And its definitely better to get it from natural sources rather than over-processed, calorie and sugar filled protein drinks. They will probably make you gain weight because they’re full of sugar that increases your appetite and are drinks, which aren’t really that filling.
First, multiply your weight in kilograms by 0.8 and that’s how many grams of protein you need per day. To get from pounds to kg divide by 2.2. So i weigh 135 lbs, i.e 61.4 kg and need 49 grams of protein per day.
One egg white contains 6-8 g of protein. I use 3 in an egg white omelette for breakfast. That’s already 21 grams on average.
One cup of black beans in a taco salad lunch contains 15 grams on average. Thats 36 grams.
One cup of skim milk contains about 9 grams. Already that’s 45 grams. Almost the 49 that I need for the day.
When I started being a vegetarian I got a book called The Everything Vegetarian book and they have all of these protein gram values listed for a variety of foods. It also had the formula. I dont use it anymore but it was really helpful in the beginning. Good luck
