The Importance of Drinking Water when Losing Weight

imageHydration is an important element to any workout.  A lack of liquids will decrease body performance, and may lead to serious bodily injuries that will prevent further workouts.  Yet, often overlooked is the benefit of an increase in drinking more water to better health and losing weight. For anyone wanting to lose weight, the most important part of the endeavor is to watch what they are eating.  There might not be any more important push-up that people do when losing weight, than the push-up away from the dinner table.  Counting the calories of a diet will make a huge improvement to any effort to lose weight.  One of the major ways that calories sneak into people’s diets is in liquid form.  Many beverages are loaded with sugars.  It is easy to get your daily amount of calories in just a few cups of your favorite drink.  To combat these hidden calories traps many people drink diet beverages or juice mixes.  Studies have shown that diet sweeteners might actually be worse for you than actual sugar.  Also, in efforts to lose weight, carbonation in diet drinks really counteract the efforts that people put out at the gym.  Studies have shown that carbonation attacks and weakens muscles, and further muscle growth.  A prevention of muscle growth will decrease the calories that your body burns when idle.  Water is the most natural and most effect beverage that anyone can take if they are looking for a good way to hydrate.  The more water that someone has in their system the more waste buildup will be taken out of their bodies.  Adding protein to your daily diet will also help in efforts to lose weight.  Protein is the building block your body uses to lean muscles.  Why are lean muscles so important for losing weight?  The creation of lean muscle takes energy.  When your body is creating lean muscle you are burning calories.  Those extra calories which your body would be otherwise be burning, in other ways, or storing for later use by converting into fat.  This means that if a person has a good workout that will include resistant muscle building training, with a high protein diet, they will be more successful than someone who just uses cardiovascular training.  A great way to add the protein to the diet is by using a whey based protein isolate supplement.  Whey Protein provides high amounts of pure protein without the fats and carbohydrates that other supplements include.  When you change the amount of protein in your diet, it is crucial to also increase the amount of water that you’re drinking each day.  Many high protein diet plans are designed for quick results.  These results come due to a loss in water weight.  The lack of water, mixed with an increase in protein can be very detrimental to your health.  Your body will have a hard time moving the excess waste from your blood stream which will be very harmful to your kidneys.  Drinking an adequate amount of water to the protein in your system will prevent any harm from a protein diet, and will allow you to gain all of the benefits that protein will give to your diet.  Water has been shown to have many benefits in your daily diet.  Drinking more water will help to sleep better, have less stress, avoid illnesses, and will also help anyone who is trying to lose weight.  Combining the benefits of water with an increase in daily protein will also be a real boost to anyone trying to create lean muscle and lose weight.

Weight Diary Day 2

This is mostly a video covering my weight-loss plan. There's a lot of information in here about how to count calories – how many you should eat, how many you should cut out, and how this all interplays with your metabolism and fat-burning power. Eat breakfast! And drink a glass of water first thing in the morning :D I've started a companion blog for these vlogs at antishay.wordpress.com where you can see what goes on behind the scenes with my FOOD, EXERCISE, and my WEIGHT. I'll be posting videos of my body and weight loss every week, but semi-daily I'm just going to talk about whatever I feel about. Thanks for watching!

Is the Sugar Busters diet program effective?

I found a copy of Sugar Busters at a Thrift Store just a few weeks ago. I figured I could gamble two bucks to see if it had any value to it. It appears to be legit. I was just curious what others had to say about it and if real people had positive results from it (not “success stories” on the official website, which are clearly trying to sell you on the product). I’m looking to loose some weight, and this may be an effective path to take. Let me hear your thoughts.

Vitamin and Supplement Use is Increasing, Do You Know Why?

imageOf all the different forms of alternative medicine, vitamin and supplement use is the most common. Their total usage has increased by 7% from 2007 to 2008. This trend is expected to continue over the next several years according to observers. There has been tremendous consumer interest in such things as probiotics, certified organic cosmetics, home and pet care, with some of these showing significant double digit growth of 20% to 40% year over year. According to Nancy White, Director of Marketing at the National Marketing Institute (NMI) in Harleysville, PA, consumer interest in the use of dietary supplements for healthcare is growing stronger in a number of different segments. A 2007 NMI Health and Wellness Trends Survey concluded that the top categories for supplement usage are weight loss, heart problems, cholesterol control, digestion, arthritis and joint pain, seasonal allergies, vision and eye health and diabetes. So after several years of declining sales, what is behind the renewed interest in vitamins and supplements? The economic downturn may have something to do with it as consumers move away from expensive prescription drugs to less expensive natural solutions. It also may be that there is a growing trend that consumers have concerning the safety of natural products over prescription drugs and their sometimes harsh side effects. The accessibility of natural vitamins and supplements and growing dissatisfaction with the results of prescription drugs also may be contributing to the changing trend also.Consumers are using supplements for a growing number of reasons and ailments. Some want to lower cholesterol levels, reduce the duration of colds and flu symptoms, increase energy and memory levels, pain reduction, loss weight and to protect their eyesight. We are also using supplements for heart health, digestive problems and diabetes.According to a recent study conducted for the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) in Washington, D.C., 68% of all Americans are users of vitamins and supplements. This is a modest increase from the year before. The interesting point of this study is that the number of adults considering themselves to be regular users of vitamins and supplements was up from 46% to 52% said Season Solario, Director of Public Relations at CRN.As consumers become more concerned about their health they also have more reinforcement today in their interest in dietary supplements. Over three quarters (79%) of physicians and 82% of nurses recommend to their patients that they take dietary supplements. This number is expected to increase as more and more clinical trials of supplements are completed.People are also feeling more confident in the quality of vitamins and supplements that are available to them. In light of the steroid scandal in Major League Baseball and the growing concern over counterfeit products, especially from China the supplement industry has taken this as a wake up call. They realize that they have to take a pro active approach to managing their suppliers, both here and overseas. It is widely expected that the recent finalization of the U.S Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) for dietary supplements and the new Adverse Event Reporting (AER) law will have very positive effects on the dietary supplement industry. GMP standards provide traceability and verification that proper procedures are being adhered to. U.S. GMP standards will have to be adopted by manufacturers in foreign countries if they want to do business with the ever increasing U.S. global supplement industry. The trend in consumer interest and use in vitamins and supplements is expected to continue over the foreseeable future. Many Americans are becoming more pro active concerning the health of themselves and their families. With this interest will come a better understanding of the benefits of supplements and their potential to improve overall health.

are high protein low carb diets good for competitive cyclists trying to lose weight?

Ive been reading this book on how high protein and moderate fat diets are alot better than low fat high complex carb ones. It says it controls your insulin levels much better and thus not store fat. On the other hand if I limit carbs with the amount of training I do daily Im afraid I will bonk out. Im 6′1 and weight about 171 lbs, and I can lose body fat and get leaner
