Gotta Have It. Can’t Live Without it

imageSaturday mornings are, by far, my most favorite time of the week. Not only do I get to sleep in an hour longer than weekdays, but I get to go on my much anticipated Saturday morning run.
I’m a runner. I love the feeling of letting my feet take me for miles at a time away from whatever awaits me the rest of the day. I love the way my feet instinctively run in time to the music. I love the way the sun feels as it slowly comes up in the sky. I love the second wind that comes after about mile five that makes me think I could run forever. Although this may sound absurd to anyone who has never experienced the natural high that comes from running, I cannot deny the pure joy that comes from a ten mile morning run.
It hasn’t always been this way. A passion for running is something that comes with time, training, and endurance. Buy yourself a good pair of running shoes (my favorites are Asics with the gel sole insert.) Start small. Don’t think that you’ll be able to automatically jump to a five mile uphill run. There are a number of online sites that will guide you through the training process whether for a marathon or simply to build up your endurance.
Once you’ve built up your endurance and have graduated to running long distances a couple times a week, make sure that you are providing your body with sufficient nutrients in order to sustain your extended runs. Over the years I’ve tried a million different energy supplements promising to make me run faster, longer, and harder. Most of them did nothing more than empty my pocket, but I’ve made a list of my favorites.
